Ronaldo on scoresheet as Manchester United defeats Everton

English Premier League giants Manchester United recorded a comeback win over Everton in their last league outing.

Following goals from Alex Iwobi, United’s new summer signing Antony and Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo scored for the Red Devils in a 2-1 win.

Manchester United came into the match with a humiliating 6-3 loss to arch-rivals Manchester City. The Red Devils were desperate to win. United were up against Frank Lampard’s Everton, who had the best defensive record in the league.

Erik ten Hag started with his typical 4-2-3-1 formation. Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw formed the four-man backline ahead of goalkeeper David De Gea. Former Real Madrid Casemiro and Christian Eriksen played at the base of the midfield while Bruno Fernandes took the number 10 spot. Marcus Rashford and Antony started on the wings with Martial leading the line.

Everton had a strong start to the match. The Toffees took the lead in the first five minutes of the game. Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi’s speedy roll from the edge of the box defeated David de Gea.

At the time, it seemed the ghosts of the City game were still haunting and United were struggling to control Everton’s intensity. However, Erik ten-Hag’s team soon came up with a forceful answer.

French striker Anthony Martial found right winger Antony with a great through ball that the Brazilian calmly past Pickford and brought parity into the game. This was Antony’s third goal in the Red Devils’ league games.

After the goal, Manchester United were comfortable with the ball and began to control the game. The Red Devils suffered a setback when Martial was forced to retire after suffering an injury. Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo was hired to replace the Frenchman.

Ronaldo soon scored the second goal for United, giving them a well-earned lead. After a powerful run from the left flank, the Portuguese defeated Pickgfordf with a low shot and left foot. The goal was very special for Ronaldo. It was his first goal of this EPL campaign and also the 700th career goal of his at the club.

Manchester United went into the break with a 2-1 lead over Everton. After the reset, both teams were canceled for a long period. Finally, in the 81st minute, Marcus Rashford scored United’s third goal which was later disallowed by VAR.

The Red Devils managed to hold out in the final minutes and recorded a narrow 2-1 victory over Everton.

With the win, United now have fifteen points from eight games. They reached the fifth position in the table. They will face Omonia Nicosia in their next outing.
