Romano provides update on situation of 27-year-old Liverpool midfielder

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that “a lot of interest” is being shown in Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita.

The Guinea international has yet to feature for the Reds this term after initially missing the start of the campaign through illness and then suffering an injury from which he has yet to recover.

Reports have recently circulated suggesting the former RB Leipzig man is unhappy with his role at Anfield and his current contract due to expire at the end of the season, it seems unlikely he will extend his stay at Merseyside despite Jurgen Klopp apparently wanting to retain its services.

“There are continuous contacts between Naby Keita’s team and Liverpool to decide on the future. There has been a lot of interest around it for a long time, but there were no official offers,” Romano told Caught Offside.

“The talks with Liverpool will continue, Keita wants to understand how important he will be for Klopp in the future before making his final decision.”

The No. 8 may feel he hasn’t received as much playing time as he would have liked at Liverpool, but when you consider his injury record is far from ideal, it’s hard to have much sympathy for the 27-year-old. -ancient.

During his time in the Bundesliga, Keita was seen as one of the next big things, but since his move to Liverpool in 2018, it’s fair to say he simply hasn’t performed to the level required.

Reds fans have seen glimpses of his ability to beat a man and put balls through the eye of a needle, but his availability just isn’t good enough, and therefore Klopp may have to accept that he is. time to profit.

We could still receive a somewhat hefty fee for the midfielder if we sell him in January and that money could go towards reinforcements in the middle of the park.

Of course, signing Jude Bellingham is believed to be the club’s top priority at the end of the season, but with his price expected to be in the region of £130m, shedding players for decent transfer will certainly help.

It would be quite a blow to lose Keita on a free transfer at the end of the season, especially when you consider we spent £54m on him just four years ago.

The situation of the midfielder is undoubtedly one to take into account.
