Romano provides update on LFC’s plan to find Julian Ward replacement

Fabrizio Romano has explained that he is surprised that Julian Ward is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season and believes that “something is definitely changing” at the club.

The 41-year-old, who only replaced Michael Edwards in charge in July, will remain in his post until the summer before calling it a day at Anfield.

“It’s amazing,” Romano told the House of Champions Podcast (via Rousing The Kop).

“Honestly with Liverpool, it’s surprising because Julian Ward was the man prepared to turn around the Liverpool project after the Michael Edwards era, but he will now step down at the end of the season.

“It’s a big change for Liverpool and I’m sure they want to make sure their next manager is someone who works on a long-term project alongside Jurgen Klopp.

“Something is definitely changing for Liverpool.”

In the new year there are expected to be many new faces at the club.

The current owners, FSG, are looking to sell the Merseysiders and have already held talks with two Middle East-based consortia, while research director Ian Graham has also resigned.

A transition period appears to be on the horizon, but the shakeup may actually give Jurgen Klopp more power on the transfer front, and is rumored to be one of the reasons Ward is leaving the club.

Edwards did very well in his role and completed some quality transfer activity (both incoming and outgoing) while his replacement hasn’t had much time but already has deals for Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Ibrahima Konate over the line.
