Roman, another brother of Tyson Fury to make pro debut on Oct 8

Another brother of world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is embarking on a career in the professional ranks. Enter Roman Fury.

The 25-year-old will make his debut on the VIP Boxing double title card at Doncaster Racecourse on Saturday 8th October.

Who is Tyson Fury’s brother, Roman Fury?

Roman, who has never boxed as an amateur, is managed and trained by Jimmy Harrington on the recommendation of Tyson and his father, John.

He lives near Tyson in Morecambe and trains alongside Gypsy King and his other brother Tommy.

Tyson, who recently called off a December fight with Anthony Joshua, said of Roman: “He’s a future cruiserweight champion contender.”

Unlike Tyson Fury and his undefeated younger brother Tommy, who was runner-up to partner Molly-Mae Hague at Love Island, Roman is happy to start his boxing career in an October bout out of the spotlight.

Confirmation came Tuesday that Roman will make his four-round debut. He said: “I don’t want to rush things. I don’t want to box big bills because I’m called ‘Fury’.

“You can’t run before you can walk. VIP boxing shows are ideal for me to learn my ringcraft and build.

“I could have had amateur fights, but I am surrounded by professional fighters and I am learning that side of things.

“Amateur fights would have been a good experience, but I would rather get into the pro ranks and learn. These shows will improve me.

“I started late and I don’t have time to waste two or three years in the amateurs, so I have to progress fast.

“Tyson, Tommy, our dad and Jimmy said just go straight into professional boxing.”

sports background

Roman, a rugby league scholarship player, got into boxing in earnest when his weight shot up to 19 stones.

The weight melted off when he trained with Tyson during lockdown. He will become the ninth member of the Fury family to box professionally when he makes his debut next month.

And he knows that carrying one of the most famous names in boxing will still put him under the microscope.

He added: “Being criticized is in my thoughts, but that comes with my name. People look at Tyson and assume we’re all as good as him.

“I haven’t had any amateur experience so I’m doing it smart. People will criticize me no matter what I do, so I have to go ahead and do my thing.

“It’s not like I’ve never put on a pair of gloves. I have always done the basics of boxing since I was a kid.

“I’ve been in boxing my whole life, and I don’t consider myself a complete rookie who just put on the gloves.

“I want to go for the titles. I am looking for British titles and like any boxer I have the ambition to win world titles.

“But I would even love the Central and English titles. It would be a privilege to win them because that is very good. Not many boxers even win Area titles.”
