Leicester City midfielder James Maddison has been linked with a move to Newcastle United in recent months.
The Magpies are looking to add more creativity to their midfield and the 26-year-old England international has been identified as a target.
However, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has now revealed that he expects Maddison to stay at the club for now and is not worried about losing the playmaker.
As quoted by the Mirror, he said: “They have signed players who have improved the dynamics of the team. They are trying to build something there, they will get better and better. I’m sure they will strengthen their roster and have the motivation to stay.
“When you have good players, they will always be coveted by other teams, it’s a good sign. It’s okay, I trust those players will be here. The key focus right now is to get him in shape. Get him out on the field again. He’s someone I want to keep here. He is a top player. But they haven’t given me any indication that we need to do anything with James in January. My goal is to improve the team, that’s what I want to do.”
The 26-year-old is undoubtedly one of the best attacking midfielders in the league and deserves to play at a higher level. Newcastle have an ambitious project and are well on their way to securing European qualification this season.

A move to St James’ Park could be an attractive option for Maddison and Newcastle have the financial wherewithal to tempt Leicester City as well.
The player will have only one year left on his contract at the end of the season and the Foxes will have to consider selling him soon if he refuses to sign an extension with them.
It will be interesting to see how the situation develops in the coming weeks.
