Rio Ferdinand Urges Harry Maguire to Leave Manchester United

Rio Ferdinand has urged Harry Maguire to leave Manchester United as he has suggested that manager Erik ten Hag is disrespecting the club’s captain.

Harry Maguire is no longer a regular starter at Manchester United, and Erik ten Hag prefers the central defense partnership between Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

Harry Maguire has featured in only seven of the 17 games Manchester United have played so far in the Premier League in the 22/23 season. Of those seven appearances, he started four games and came off the bench in three games. He, too, was an unused substitute in five Premier League games this season, while missing another five games through injury.

Harry Maguire has also made six appearances in other competitions for Manchester United in the 22/23 season. He featured in four games for Manchester United in the Europa League, and one in the EFL Cup and one in the FA Cup.

Despite the availability of Harry Maguire, Erik ten Hag started Luke Shaw, who primarily plies his trade as a left-back, at centre-back in three of Man Utd’s last four games.

That’s despite the fact that Harry Maguire enjoyed a rather impressive 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign with England. He was one of England’s top performers at the quadrennial event.

And Rio Ferdinand, who is a Manchester United legend, believes that Harry Maguire should leave the Old Trafford team immediately.

“If you are him, you have to go now. Luke Shaw is playing center back instead of him. It’s like he came back after the World Cup, playing well, everyone saying he’s done really well, and Patrice Evra is playing center back,” Rio Ferdinand said on his Vibe With Five YouTube channel.

Rio Ferdinand added: “I would like to strangle Patrice! He would have squashed Patrice in training to make sure she’s not available, and he’d go to the manager and say, ‘Are you kidding me, boss?’ He would have gone straight to the manager’s office and said, ‘you’re disrespecting me.’

“Harry Maguire has to move. I think he stays for the games and they can’t put anyone else in. He plays in the cup matches”.

Meanwhile, Man Utd have resumed their campaign after the winter break in spectacular fashion. The Red Devils have won all five games they have played since club soccer action resumed after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
