Reports ‘next Saturday’s fixtures expected to be postponed’ for Liverpool

The Queen’s death has brought with it a host of disruptions to the footballing calendar, with more Liverpool and Premier League matches now expected to be called off.

As reported by football journalist Richard Buxton: ‘Next Saturday’s top flight matches are also expected to be postponed in line with the Queen’s state funeral. The next available date to play any deferred match is January 17/18, 2023’.

One game may have been bad enough for some fans, but with updates pending on our Champions League match with Ajax and now a possible week further away from domestic football, this all seems a bit over the top.

When we see that cricket and rugby are still allowed to be played in England, it’s hard to see how a month without football is a fitting tribute, but the other sports can carry on.

With the international break looming, our next match could be against Brighton on 1st October.

Then there is the other issue of when these games can be rescheduled, especially with this campaign already heavily interrupted by the World Cup in Qatar.

Supporters now don’t know if they should arrange transportation and accommodation for trips that may soon be canceled and few refunds are offered, because everything else in the world continues as normal.

For some reason, football is being punished and, as always, it is the fans who will feel the pain in their pockets more than anyone else.
