Reported Liverpool target weighs in on interest show in him from Klopp’s side

Konrad Laimer has commented on the interest that Liverpool shows this summer for him.

The RB Leipzig midfielder was one of the names recently considered by Jurgen Klopp’s side as they looked for midfield reinforcements before the window closed on September 1.

The Reds, of course, opted to sign Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus, but Austrian international Laimer has disputed whether he was aware of the Premier League side’s interest.

“It wasn’t that hot that anything had happened,” he told BILD (via Sport Witness).

“A hasty exit is not my thing. If I had to change clubs, I would like to think about it and decide calmly, not overnight.

“Especially because the first half of the season is very short anyway because of the World Cup and you wouldn’t have had time to settle in and get fit.

“The Premier League is beautiful, but for me it is not essential. It’s much more important to me: how people talk to me, what feeling I have about something.”

The 25-year-old made 43 appearances for the Bundesliga side last season (in all competitions).

He recorded five goals and six assists during the season as Leipzig secured Champions League qualification with a fourth-place finish.

It was reported that we had “tried” to sign Laimer before the window closed recently, but the Austrian could be available on a free transfer next summer.

Arthur, the man we decided to bring to Anfield this summer, has experience playing for European giants in Barcelona and Juventus and the hope is that he can have a calming influence in our midfield this season.

Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, Alex Oxalde-Chamberlain and Jordan Henderson are all sidelined with injuries at the moment and therefore we may see our new Brazilian make his debut against Napoli on Wednesday night.
