Southampton Transfer News: Southampton are looking to part with one of their stars, Nathan Redmond, as they are close to making a permanent move to Besiktas.
Nathan Redmond only has one year left on his contract, and this is the right time for the Saints to get a transfer fee for him by selling him. Otherwise, the club will have to let him go for free. There was a deadline offer from newly promoted Bournemouth of the English Premier League, but the move did not materialize.
Redmond began his professional career at Birmingham City and made his senior debut in 2010. Academy director Terry Westley praised the youngster, comparing him to some of the Premier League’s best wingers including Aaron Lennon and AshleyYoung. Even manager Alex Mcleish praised his performance on his debut against Rochdale in the League Cup match.
Redmond scored 9 goals in his 82 games for Birmingham and provided 11 assists. He won the League Cup with the club in 2011.
Southampton Transfer News: Career
In the 2013 summer transfer window, the club accepted two offers for the youngster from Swansea City and Norwich City. Two offers were the same, worth around £2 million plus up to £1.2 million in additional payments. In the end, Redmond opted to join Norwich City on a four-year deal.
The youngster made his debut for Norwich in a 2-2 draw against Everton, with his first goal coming against Southampton. During his time in the Canary Islands he scored 13 goals and provided 21 assists in 123 games.
In 2016, Norwich sold the winger to Southampton for an undisclosed fee, possibly worth around £10m, according to BBC Sport. He signed a massive 5 year contract. Redmond scored on his debut day against Watford in a 1–1 draw.
Redmond reached his potential in his third season at the club, as he won both the fans’ and players’ Player of the Year awards at the end of the season. He, with his brilliant form, helped the Saints survive relegation as they finished the league in 16th position.
Before the start of the 2019-20 season, he signed a new four-year contract with the club. The contract extended his stay through the summer of 2023. Redmond is now 28 and has fallen out of favor this season. He came on as a late substitute in a 4–1 opening day loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
Southampton Transfer News: Link to Besiktas
Since that day, Ralph Hasenhuttl has not included him in the team of the day. Multiple reports suggest the Saints have allowed the former England International to talk to Istanbul giants Besiktas, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
Fabrizio Ramano confirmed that Besiktas are leading to sign him for a fee of £4m. The British winger will sign a one-year contract and will play with his compatriot Delle Alli.
