Owen O’Neill [8-0] he believes he could win an energetic and fiery ‘battle of the redheads’ through arrest.
‘Triple O’ faces Martin Quinn [3(1)-2(0)] on the undercard of Eric Donovan’s EU title fight at the Europa Hotel on September 24 and predicts it could end the Redheads’ red-hot battle in explosive fashion.
‘The Operator’ admits that the Dubliner represents his toughest test to date, noting that he has more domestic experience and is always ready for battle.
He predicts the Crumlin BC graduate will match him on the balls front, but believes he will overshadow the technical side of the fight and is therefore confident he can punish Quinn’s aggression to secure the first stoppage of his career. .
“We are both fighters, we both have balls of steel, but I think I could be a little more technical than him and that is what wins for me. I think there might be a good chance he’ll get my first stoppage,” he tells Irish-boxing.com.
Quinn, who hasn’t fought all year, has expressed his determination to record a win in the corner away from home. The Dublin side of the fight has also teamed up with Pete Taylor and has been training Gary Cully and the like in preparation for a fight that will play out in front of TG4 cameras.

All of which is music to O’Neill’s ears. The Belfast boxer has wanted to serve the loyalist of him after a fight of such caliber for some time now and is pleased at the fact that he has signed for the scrap with great potential. He also points out that Quinn’s enthusiasm fuels his own motivation.
“Happy days, he is ready for that. It’s a game and he thinks he’s going to win. He makes me want to and more motivated”, he adds before revealing that he has little interest in his rival’s training situation.
“I don’t care if he’s training at Pete Taylor’s gym, I have an amazing stable too. I’m training with Poddy McCrary, Conor Quinn, Colm Murphy, I’ve trained with Lewis Crocker and I’ve trained with Lewis. I’ve had incredible fights with people who are 10 times better than me and Marty, so I’m very confident.”
Unlike O’Neill, Quinn has all the Irish experience, having defeated Francy Luzoho on a TG4 card and lost to Karl Kelly in a highly entertaining fight.
‘Mighty’ believes experience will be key in the fight, but the Dee Walsh-trained fighter remains confident nonetheless.
“He’s had 50-50 fights, so he’s probably right, he’s had the toughest fights, but I’m working out in the gym and training some great fighters. I’m glad he’s saying that because it’s going to be an amazing fight. I am very sure that I win. Go ahead.”
