“Really emotional” Wijnaldum breaks silence after horror Roma injury

Gini Wijnaldum looked set to rejuvenate his footballing career as his move on loan from PSG to Roma was confirmed, but a horrific injury sidelined him for a considerable number of planned months.

Speaking on his Twitter account, the 31-year-old said: “I didn’t respond after my injury because I was very emotional and sad about the situation around my injury. I want to say sorry about that. I am in a very good space now, I accept the situation as it is and that is why I can now give 100 percent in my rehabilitation.

“I really want to thank the Roma fans for their support, it gives me the power to come back as quickly as possible. I know it’s hard for you too, as I just joined the club and you had high hopes for the season, but there is still time.”

It has obviously been an emotional time for our former number 5, but this video message clearly shows that he is now in a better place, physically and mentally.

After confessing that Jurgen Klopp’s comments about the Dutchman being the ‘perfect midfielder’ can only have been true at Liverpool, it’s clear the midfielder has taken a hit to his confidence.

Fractured his tibia means the former Newcastle player is not expected to be back on the pitch until the new year and missing out on a possible last World Cup for his nation will be a huge blow, hopefully he will see him back healthy and on the pitch very soon.
