Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez responds to Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi during Real Madrid’s General Assembly in Valdebebas on Sunday.
The Madridista president is always open to a reply every time PSG tries to humiliate his club.
The rivalry between these two clubs is recent after Madrid made several attempts to sign French superstar Kylian Mbappe from his club.
ECA and PSG president Al-Khelaifi recently questioned Real Madrid’s celebration of winning the Champions League after proposing a Super League to replace the trophy they won.
What did the PSG president say?
In his speech at the 28th General Assembly of the Association of European Clubs, the president of PSG criticized Real Madrid’s conquest of the Champions League.
Despite the threat of sanctions from UEFA, Madrid, along with Barça and Juve, have kept the dreams of the European Super League alive. However, nine of the original 12 founding clubs left the project in October 2021 after facing strong fan protests.
Al-Khelaifi said: “It is strange that Real Madrid is celebrating winning the Champions League. It is very rare that you go against the competition, but you participate and celebrate having won the title. I think it’s really weird, to be honest. But we are not going to waste time on this and we are going to continue working.”
After several days, the president of Real Madrid did not hesitate to reply to all those cruel words. He spoke about the approach of UEFA and the Super League.
He said: “The Super League format cannot close the discussion, European justice is already questioning UEFA’s monopoly on football. The Super League would not be a closed competition, since it would have 25 percent of its places open”.
He then strongly criticized the ECA president’s negative and insulting comment about the most successful club in the world, Real Madrid, as he said: “Recently, the ECA president said that Real Madrid is afraid of the ECA. Perhaps we should remind the president of the ECA who Real Madrid is (Applause). Competition is in our DNA and the club has a responsibility to protect football as a whole and that means not accepting threats wherever they come from”.
Current state of the European Super League
Pérez also gave the current status of his dream Superliga project. He said that the Super League is in judicial process. He is very optimistic that the decision will be in his favor. In his opinion, this will mark a new era in European football.
Pérez also praised his players who led Real Madrid to their 14th Champions League trophy last season. No football club on the planet comes close to achieving this rare historical feat.
He spoke delighted: “Our players are already Real Madrid legends. There are five of them with five Champions League titles and five of them are in the UEFA Champions League Ideal XI. Five of them are also nominated for the Ballon d’Or”.
He showed optimism about the two new summer arrivals, Aurelian Tchouameni and Antonio Rudiger. In the end, he thanked his former players who left the white team this summer.
He spoke: “I want to thank [Marcelo]He is the player with the most titles in the history of Real Madrid. He has been one of the best in our history with his magic and fantasy.”
The president also recalled the great and brilliant moments of Casemiro, Bale and Isco at the club and thanked them for their contribution.
