Defending La Liga champion Real Madrid are interested in signing Portuguese international Diogo Dalot in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Diogo Dalot joined Porto’s youth academy at a very young age. The fullback later graduated from the academy and was promoted to the main team.
But after playing just eight games for the Portuguese club, Dalot joined English Premier League giants Manchester United when the Red Devils paid £19m for him. Diogo Dalot had a decent start to his career at Manchester United.
But after the arrival of English full-back Aaron Wan Bissaka, the Portuguese right-back fell into the background. After struggling for playing time, Dalot joined Serie A giants AC Milan on a one-year loan. The fullback had a great season in Italy and then returned to United again.
Real Madrid joins Barcelona in the Race for Dalot
Manchester United appointed Dutch manager Erik ten Hag at the start of the season. With the Dutch coach, Diogo Dalot began to show his true potential. He is currently playing the best football of his life and has cemented his place in the Red Devils lineup.
Now, according to a Daily Mirror report, La Liga giants Real Madrid are considering signing the Portuguese full-back next summer.
Defending UEFA Champions League champions Real Madrid are slowly changing the core of their previous generation. They have already replaced their iconic central duo of Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos. French fullback Ferland Mendy replaced Brazilian left back Marcelo. And now the Los Blancos management wants to bring in a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal.
Real Madrid’s first target for the job was Manchester City right-back Joao Cancelo. However, the Citizens do not want to sell the side at all costs. So Madrid targeted Cancelo’s compatriot, Diogo Dalot.
The Portuguese winger’s contract will end next summer. Although United can activate the extension clause of his contract, they have not done so yet. And if the Red Devils don’t extend his contract, he will leave Old Trafford as a free agent.
Now, apart from Real Madrid, their arch-rivals FC Barcelona also have a keen interest in the side. The Catalan giants tried to sign Dalot even in the summer transfer window, but were unsuccessful. Now they will seek to sign him again in the next windows.
Dalot is currently one of the best players at Manchester United. So, realistically, United will give him a contract extension which makes things difficult for Los Blancos.
Real Madrid will play Girona in their next match. The Whites suffered a defeat in their last game against RB Leipzig. They will hope to get back on the path of profit.
