Manchester United drew against Chelsea yesterday, and Erik ten Hag’s men needed a late draw to ensure they did not suffer what would have been a disappointing defeat.
The goal came courtesy of Casemiro.
However, the match for United fans and the team had additional consequences, as French defender Raphael Varane was injured in the process.
Varane tried to tackle a running Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but instead hit the ground in pain, grabbing his knee.
The 29-year-old lay on the ground writhing in pain and discomfort. The medical team felt that he could not continue and he had to be removed.
VÃctor Lindelof entered by Varane and was placed right next to Lisandro MartÃnez.
Varane was crying and inconsolable as he limped back to the touchline and down the tunnel.
According to the reliable Fredrik Filtvedt, Varane suffered a hamstring injury.
It is not known when he will be able to return to the team according to Filtvedt.
The club will likely make a decision once tests and evaluations are done.

Damien Dubras reveals to Canal+Foot that Varane’s injury is not as serious as previously thought. He says the player has a biceps femoris (hamstring) injury. If selected for France, Varane would only miss the first game against Australia.
Biceps femoris injury for Raphaël Varane, a less serious injury than feared. However, if he were selected, he would likely lose the Blues’ first World Cup game against Australia. @CanalplusFoot

Tier 1 journalist Julien Laurens confirms this, indicating that the France international will be sidelined for three to four weeks.
This is a positive development in the Varane books.
I am told that Raphaël Varane suffered a hamstring injury which is less serious than initially thought. He should be out 3-4 weeks and sees the MRI results as positive. He will not play for United before the WC and then Deschamps will have to call him @ESPNFC

This almost certainly determines the United centre-back’s departure for the six games leading up to the World Cup.
Fans are hoping the defender won’t be left out for long. If he faces an extended spell on the sidelines, it would be a significant blow to the Red Devils.
