According to The Sun (via Sportskeeda), Paris Saint-Germain have identified Cristiano Ronaldo as a potential candidate to replace Lionel Messi if he leaves next summer.

Messi has been in brilliant form this season, registering five goals and seven assists in nine Ligue 1 appearances. However, his current contract at the Parc des Princes is due to expire at the end of this season.

He has the option to extend it for another season but has yet to make a decision due to interest from his club Barcelona in re-signing him. He will reportedly make the decision for him after the FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has struggled with his playing time this term, starting just one game in the league. It will be ideal for him if the French giants make an approach to sign him in the next transfer window.

He has appeared in eight league games this season, scoring five goals and providing one more assist.
