Premier League could swap stadiums for games

The Premier League is considering swapping stadiums for games to be held in London ahead of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral next week.

The passing of the long-reigning monarch has put a lot of pressure on London in particular, with police numbers likely to prevent football matches from taking place safely.

Games were suspended over the weekend, and it remains to be seen which ones will be able to go ahead in the coming days, although some European matches appear to be given the green light.

As for the Premier League, it seems that changing venues are being considered for matches like Chelsea vs Liverpool, which could take place at Anfield instead of Stamford Bridge in London.

How realistic this is and whether it can be implemented in such a short time remains to be seen, but with match congestion ahead of this winter’s World Cup, a solution would surely be very welcome.
