Marcus Rashford is expected to return to Manchester United’s starting line-up against Bournemouth on Tuesday after being dropped against Wolves for disciplinary reasons.
The England man is in top form and came off the bench to score the winner on Saturday, leaving the pitch with his arms around manager Erik ten Hag and accepting his punishment with grace.
He will likely replace Alejandro Garnacho in the starting line-up as he did at half time at Molyneux, although there is also a case for leaving Antony, who again failed to impress in that game.
Jadon Sancho probably isn’t an option on the wing yet. He has returned to Old Trafford but has not resumed team training. The full reason for his absence is still unclear; Ten Hag spoke of both mental and physical problems and sites like premierinjuries.com have him listed as absent for disciplinary reasons.
In the rest of the attack, it is likely that everything will continue as usual, with Anthony Martial in front and Bruno Fernandes behind him.
Casemiro and Christian Eriksen will likely start in the deep midfield positions, although Fred came on for Eriksen against Wolves and was encouraged.
Scott McTominay may also be in contention if he has recovered from the virus that has also cost Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof a place in the starting line-up since the World Cup.
Defense-wise, there’s a case to be made for retaining the makeshift four defensemen of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. They have kept two clean sheets, and the same pair of full-backs have kept three consecutive clean sheets since the World Cup.
However, we believe that Ten Hag will probably want to rebuild the partnership between Lisandro Martínez and Raphael Varane as soon as possible.
Shaw is likely to return to left-back, with Malacia retiring to the bench despite making a wrong footing.
Diogo Dalot is back in training but Wan-Bissaka could continue, and the Portugal international may return against Everton in the FA Cup on Friday.
David de Gea will continue in goal.
With all that in mind, here’s our predicted XI for Tuesday’s game:
