Potter Reacts to Erik ten Hag’s Treatment of Cristiano Ronaldo

Chelsea manager Graham Potter appeared to endorse Erik ten Hag over the Man Utd manager’s decision to drop Cristiano Ronaldo from the Red Devils squad for his trip to Stamford Bridge.

Ronaldo made headlines for all the wrong reasons when he ran out of the tunnel before the end of the match between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. The Portuguese superstar was an unused substitute as Man Utd secured a 2-0 victory over the Old Trafford outfit.

Speaking after the match, Ten Hag said that he will take care of Ronaldo. Man Utd have since confirmed that the 37-year-old will not be part of the Man Utd squad for the match against Chelsea.

Ronaldo also issued a statement after Man Utd confirmed Ten Hag’s decision to leave him. The Portuguese international suggested that the heat of the moment got the best of him, but he did not apologize.

When asked what he thinks of Ten Hag’s treatment of Ronaldo, Potter appeared to endorse the Man Utd manager.

“I can’t really comment because I don’t know the ins and outs, but he has taken his stance, sometimes you have to do that, and then you need the support of the club. From the outside, that’s what happened,” Potter said at the pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea vs Man Utd.

Meanwhile, Potter has already faced Man Utd once this season. He was Brighton’s manager when the Seagulls inflicted a 2–1 defeat on the Red Devils in the opening game of the season.

Potter will try once again to get the best of the Old Trafford team when the Blues host them at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea come into the game after their disappointing draw against Brentford in the English top flight. Meanwhile, Man Utd head into the match after producing arguably their best performance since Ten Hag took over the club.

The Red Devils secured a 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur, thanks to goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes in the second half.

Chelsea currently sit fourth in the Premier League points table with 20 points from their first 10 games. The Blues are a point clear of Manchester United, who sit just behind, in fifth place.

Chelsea will have a chance to set up four points over Man Utd and Red Devils Utd will have a chance to overtake the Blues in the points table when the two sides meet.
