Only Chelsea manager Graham Potter can turn the tables on N’Golo Kante, according to Fabrizio Romano in today’s edition of his exclusive CaughtOffside column.
The Blues find themselves in a difficult situation at the moment, with Kante nearing the end of his contract, and the experienced French international set to become a free agent at the end of this season.
According to Romano, although Kante loves Chelsea, it seems the club wants to go in a different direction and build around younger players.
Kante has been a great servant to the club, but it doesn’t seem too surprising that this doesn’t leave him much room to continue playing a key role for the west London giants.
The 31-year-old is not getting any younger and has had his fitness issues of late, so it now looks as though Chelsea boss Potter may have to turn the tables, if he so chooses.
“Where Kante might go, it’s still too early to tell,” Romano said. “It does not seem likely that he will stay because there is still no agreement.
“Kante loves Chelsea and would love to stay, but the club is going in a different direction with the young player/salary project. Chelsea are following many talented young midfielders to be ready in 2023, January or summer.
“Only Graham Potter can change the situation.”

It might be the right time for Chelsea to move on, but fans are sure to be disappointed to see this legendary figure leave them.
Kante joined CFC in 2016 and played a starring role in their Premier League title success in his first season at Stamford Bridge, while also winning the PFA Player of the Year award.
Kante later ended up upping his game when it really mattered once again, as the Blues picked up a surprise victory in the Champions League final in 2021, with Kante being man of the match in the final win against Manchester City.
