After a spectacular World Cup campaign on a personal level, Wojciech Szczesny returned to Turin, but unfortunately suffered a slight knock during his first appearance for Juventus in the friendly against Standard Liège last Friday.
The goalkeeper left his place between the sticks late in the first half to Mattia Perin with a neck problem, raising concerns about his readiness for the restart.
But according to JuventusNews24, Szczesny is showing signs of improvement and should be available to start in the Old Lady’s first meeting of 2023.
The Bianconeri travel to Lombardy to face the Cremonese on Wednesday. Max Allegri’s men will be looking to extend their domestic winning streak after picking up six straight wins before the winter break.
So while the Pole is likely to shake off the blow to start against the new Serie A boys, his substitute Mattia Perin remains on the alert to answer the call if necessary.
This season, Szczesny has made nine Serie A appearances so far, racking up seven clean sheets in the process and only conceding three goals.
Juve FC says
While the 32-year-old has continually shown that he is a top-tier goalkeeper, Perin’s presence means Juventus can rest easy when it comes to the goalkeeping department.
The former Genoa player has to be one of the best substitute goalkeepers in the world, if not the best.
