Barcelona Transfer News: The Bosnian arrives at Sharjah
Catalan giant Barcelona has officially announced the departure of its midfielder Miralem Pjanic.
In an official statement, Barça stated: “FC Barcelona and Miralem Pjanić have reached an agreement to release the player from the contract that binds him to the club until the end of the 2023/24 season.”
A former Metz academy graduate, Pjanic began his senior career at the German club. After just one year with the senior team, he was signed by Lyon of the French Ligue 1.
He spent three years in France before joining the Italian club AS Roma. By joining Roma, Pjanic began to show off his immense talent. He soon established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Italian league and secured even bigger club contracts.
However, Pjanic decided to join the most successful club in Serie A, Juventus. After signing for the Old Lady, Pjanic won four Serie A titles and two Italian Cups.
The midfielder represented Luxembourg at youth internationals. However, he decided to play for the Bosnia and Herzegovina senior team and made his debut in 2008, and he played an outstanding role in Bosnia’s first World Cup qualification. He has so far represented Bosnia and Herzegovina in 107 matches and has scored 18 goals.
Pjanic joined Barcelona in 2020 as part of the Arthur deal. He got off to a decent start to his Barca career, but soon ran into trouble with Ditch manager Ronald Koeman. Pjanic was then loaned out to Turkish club Besiktas.
With the arrival of Xavi Hernández, Pjanic had a second chance to succeed in Barcelona. The Bosnian midfielder was part of Barcelona’s pre-season and appeared in almost every game.
The Blaugranas even preferred him to their youth squad Nico González. But he was still only Xavi’s sixth-choice midfielder and he was expected to see very little playing time. He did not play a minute in Barcelona’s first four league games.
So when an offer came from Sharjah FC, Pjanic decided to move to Asia, preferring more playing time than playing in Europe.
Known for his brilliant technical ability and work-rate, Pjanic is a very versatile player and can play in all midfield positions. Therefore, his arrival will surely be a huge boost for Sharjah.
