Phil Neville has spoken out about the ongoing takeover at Manchester United.

Speaking to The Athletic, Neville tells fans that while he is in favor of the Glazers leaving the club, they should beware of incoming owners.

The former United player expressed concern in particular about foreign investment, saying they are a far cry from the club’s culture.

“What happens with foreign investment is that since they are not from this area, they do not understand what is needed culturally. And culture is the most important thing.” He said.

Neville says the incoming owners must stick to what has made United great in the past and respect the club’s history if they are to succeed.

“Basically, you have to keep what is good about Manchester United. The history of Manchester United is the most important thing for that football club. If you ignore that history you will not be successful, as has been demonstrated in the last 10, 15 years.” He said.

The Inter Miami coach went on to say that whoever the new owners are they have a great job on their hands, which includes a great investment.

“The ground needs redevelopment, the training ground needs redevelopment, the club’s infrastructure needs a big investment. And the team needs investment. And it’s a great job there for somebody.” He said.

Neville also praised the job Erik ten Hag is doing at Old Trafford and says it has taken a lot of pressure off the owners regarding the sale of the club, with better results on the pitch.

“It seems that an identity is being formed. Erik ten Hag has had to make some big decisions and he has made them well. I think the identity on the pitch has taken a lot of pressure off the sale of the club off the pitch,” he said.

Ten Hag has the chance to present the club’s first silverware in six years next weekend as the club prepares for the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle.

Before there is the great second leg of the Europa League against Barcelona this Thursday, at Old Trafford.
