Manchester United defender Phil Jones has been left out of Manchester United’s final Premier League squad.
In what appears to be the final nail in the coffin of Jones’ Manchester United career, he has been removed from the 2022/23 list submitted for league registration by Erik ten Hag.
Unless the 30-year-old is signed by the Red Devils in January, he will not appear again, as his contract expires at the end of the season.
Jones’ exclusion today represents the latest blow to his United career after he was also left out of the 25-man Europa League squad.
This new move comes after reports emerged that the defender had been ejected from United’s dressing room to make room for new arrivals.
Ten Hag has named five central defenders: Raphael Varane, Lisandro MartÃnez, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Axel Tuanzebe.
This has meant there is no room for the Premier League champions, who along with David de Gea are the only remaining player from United’s last team to win the league.
Jones joined the 20-time champions of England in 2011 from Blackburn Rovers on a £16.5m deal as an exciting young prospect.
However, in recent years, the player has been marginalized, barely appearing in his team.
While most of this has been due to injuries, which he has struggled with, Jones has also been largely ignored by managers who have shown a preference for other options.
Over the past two seasons, Jones has only appeared for United 13 times.
While it may seem like his time at Old Trafford has come to an end, Jones still has many years ahead of him. At just 30 years old, he may still have a lot to offer another team and get back to doing what he loves.
