Phil Hay confirms 25-year-old striker won’t play for Leeds again

Despite never signing him permanently, Leeds United were forced to pay RB Leipzig the full €21m for Jean-Kevin Augustin and, according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay, the French striker will never play again for The whites.

Although Augustin’s move from Leipzig in 2019 was initially on loan, the Whites were ordered by FIFA to pay their German rivals a full transfer fee.

Although he signed for former boss Marcelo Bielsa three years ago, the 25-year-old only made three appearances for Leeds United and consequently was loaned back to FC Nantes and, more recently, FC Basel, which Hay says is where I will continue.

“So FIFA’s decision was to make him a free agent,” Hay said.

“He went to Nantes in France, and now he is in Basel in Switzerland. She’s not going back to Leeds, she’s not his player, they can’t make money off him in that sense.”
