Peter Crouch against postponement of Premier League fixtures

Peter Crouch has explained that he is against the postponement of this weekend’s Premier League matches.

Football matches at all levels across the country, including grassroots football, will not take place following the Queen’s death on Thursday, but the former Liverpool striker has laid out what he thinks would have been a ‘better farewell’ for Queen Elizabeth II.

On his official Twitter account earlier today, the 41-year-old said: “I know it’s just a game and some things are much more important, but imagine all of our games took place this weekend. Black armbands, observed silences, national anthem, real band playing, etc. for millions of viewers around the world. Isn’t that a better goodbye?

The Reds were set to host Wolves at Anfield on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp’s team hosts Ajax on Tuesday in the Champions League and that match is expected to go ahead as usual due to the fact that the match is under UEFA regulations.

Crouch’s comments are sure to divide opinion, but they echo the sentiment of many soccer fans across the country.

With the World Cup in Qatar scheduled for November and December this year, Liverpool’s fixture list was already looking pretty hectic and this latest postponement certainly won’t ease things.

Reports also suggest that next weekend’s league clashes are also in doubt with The Queen’s funeral scheduled for next weekend.

The Anfield team will face Chelsea in the capital, but we will have to wait for further updates from the government and the Premier League.
