Despite Liverpool’s extensive injury list of late, Paul Dickov has explained that Thiago Alcantara is the player Jurgen Klopp’s side misses the most.
The Scotsman admitted that the Spain international has had an “off-and-on start to the season” along with many of his Reds team-mates, but believes it is the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich midfielder who makes the champions of the FA Cup “score”.
“Injuries have a big part to play in him,” Dickov told Sky Sports (quoted by Rousing The Kop) when discussing Liverpool’s slow start to the Premier League campaign. “Losing Luis Díaz, also Jota who has been in and out all season. Andy Robertson just came back in the last few games, Trent has been out, Konate, Matip. When you have that many players, there is no consistency in the selection, there is no consistency in performances from week to week.
“I have named many players there, but Thiago is the most important for me. He’s the one who really makes them work, he’s the creative in midfield and he’s also had an off-and-on start to the season. So you put all that together and it’s really difficult for them, but there’s no doubt there’s something special about the Champions League and Liverpool. They always seem to show up and do the performances they need to.”

The maestro of midfield was not present due to an ear infection during our dismal loss to Nottingham Forest at the weekend and was not involved during our 3-0 loss to Ajax on Wednesday night in the Champions League. .

Against Forest on Saturday, and during the early stages of our clash with the Dutch champions, our midfield was virtually non-existent and the intelligence of our number 6 was sorely missed.
He has the ability to unlock defenses with his incredible passing ability and controls the midfield whenever he is on the wing.
The likes of Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are also big misses at the moment and we haven’t had much luck with injuries so far this year.
We have five games to play before the Qatar World Cup kicks off next month; Let’s hope that when we return to action on Boxing Day, Klopp will have a full squad to choose from.
