Paramount+ reports record Champions League viewers

Paramount+ Champions League record

After matchday one, Paramount+ recorded a viewership record for its coverage of the UEFA Champions League. The company did not release exact figures on the number of people watching. However, CBS claims that Paramount+ had the two most-streamed UCL group stage matchdays in the streaming service’s history this week.

Tuesday’s clashes apparently set the record for the company. Even then, Wednesday’s games also received massive numbers. Overall, Paramount+ reported double-digit year-over-year growth in three categories. The growth was in average viewership, broadcast minutes and total households over the two days of games.

The streaming service’s The Golazo Show also recorded its most-watched show on Wednesday. The Golazo Show offers fast-paced coverage showing viewers the biggest moments from all the matchups throughout the day. As Champions League group stage days can have up to six games at a time, The Golazo Show is the perfect way to catch all the action.

Paramount+ Champions League viewers record

With Paramount+ posting record numbers in just their first week of the current campaign, there’s every chance of continuing the hot streak in the future. Champions League games are spread throughout the season from September through to the final in May. There are still 10 more rounds of the group stage to go before the round of 16 kick off.

Paramount+ recently renewed its rights to broadcast Champions League matches in the US through 2030. The platform will pay around $250 million per season, for a total of $1.5 billion. The previous contract to broadcast Champions League matches in the US was reportedly around $100 million per season.

Champions League matches return on Paramount+ next week. The ratings could get even better for the platform as there are some tasty games set for both days. Bayern host Barcelona on Tuesday, while superstar striker Erling Haaland faces his former club when Borussia Dortmund travel to Manchester City on Wednesday.
