The president of Olympique de Marseille, Pablo Longori, is the last to comment on the situation of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Longori has ruled out Marseille making a move for Ronaldo.
Speaking to RMC Sport, the chairman first commented on the financial implications of signing a player of the stature of the legendary striker.
“Football is very clear. You manage with the means that you have at your disposal, with a financial balance,” Longoria said.
“You have to do everything to get better results, seek to improve the team, but with economic stability. That is important in 2022. We need a sustainable financial situation.”
But it didn’t end there, saving a thinly veiled criticism of Ronaldo’s attitude for last.
“We are far from ideas like that, from big stars, individual players. We are more focused on team players putting in individual performances that serve the team.
“We have a project in which everyone must work for a collective.”
That Ronaldo is not exactly a team-focused player is not news to anyone.
But his exit against Tottenham Hotspur has highlighted his questionable attitude.
It seems that Ronaldo’s selfishness is now a valid reason for clubs, even from a club barely considered among the elite, to shun him.
Ronaldo was without suitors last summer, during which he was desperate to leave Old Trafford.
Diminishing capacity, gargantuan salaries and now a complete absence of team ethic are sure to deny Ronaldo any chance of moving to a club he deems worthy of his status.
