Opponent Change – Conor Quinn to fight Nicaraguan KO machine in comeback fight

conor quinn [2(2)-0] finds himself in a much tougher fight than originally planned.

‘The Magnificent is fighting for the first time in just under three years when he changes leathers on the undercard of Eric Donavan’s bid to become EU super featherweight champion in Belfast this Saturday, and he hasn’t had an easy reintroduction.

The 21-year-old was initially set to fight Angel Gabriel Chavez. [3(3)-3(1)-1] in a more than respectable return.

However, Chavez dropped out and the Dee Walsh-trained little man will share the ring with the brilliantly named Darwin ‘El Finito’ Martinez. [7(6)-3(2)-1]

The 24-year-old Martinez is certainly an upgrade over his fellow Nicuagarian and is a dangerous opponent for any early-day pro, no matter if he returns from a break.

In Managua, Nicaragua, 21-year-old super flyweight Darwin Martinez (4-0-1, 4 KO’s) with the monstrous KO of Julio Borda (3-25). Fortunately, Borda got up and left the ring under his own power. Had to go back to see this one, thanks @KingDanesh! #boxing #boxing https://t.co/veMQymtWWK

Hailing from the fight-crazy city of Managua, the fighter was a solid fan. In fact, he bested Quinn at the 2016 World Junior Championships.

He also won Junior Pan American silver and gold at the Elite Central American Championships. As a professional, he has proven to be an aggressive and entertaining trader who hits hard. The 24-year-old has six stops from 10 wins and also has the experience of doing 10 rounds, while Quinn has never gone above 3.

‘El Finto’ has moved to Barcelona to become an opponent and this is his first fight since moving to Europe.

It’s a surprise move for the Clonnard ABC graduate, and while it may be a fight forced on him at the last minute, it’s still a fight he’d like.

Speaking to Irish-boxing.com before Martinez took the corner for their TG4 broadcast clash, Quinn revealed a desire and willingness to be tested and move fast.
