Brazilian Neymar was ruled out of his country’s last two World Cup group stage matches after suffering an ankle injury during Thursday’s 2-0 win against Serbia.
Neymar was withdrawn in the 80th minute of the game due to injury. He looked absolutely devastated and was photographed crying on the bench.
The severity of the injury could be seen in his swollen ankle. He will miss Brazil’s last two group stage matches against Switzerland and Cameroon.
The PSG star has now given an injury update on his Instagram posting an emotional message for his fans. He wrote:
“The pride and love I feel for wearing this jersey cannot be explained. If God gave me the opportunity to choose a country to be born in, it would be BRAZIL.
“Nothing in my life was given to me or easy, I always had to pursue my dreams and my goals. Never wishing evil on anyone, but helping those in need.
“Today has been one of the hardest moments of my career… and again in a World Cup. I have an injury, yes it’s boring, it’s going to hurt, but I’m sure I’ll have a chance to come back because I’ll do everything I can to help my country, my teammates and myself.
“Wait so long for the enemy to take me down like this? NEVER! I am a SON OF THE IMPOSSIBLE GOD and my FAITH is infinite.”
Many players showed their support for Neymar, in particular the Barcelona man Raphinha, who criticized the Brazil fans on his social media, claiming that they do not treat Neymar as he deserves. In a surprise post, he wrote (via 90min):
“The Argentine fans treat [Lionel] Messi like a god”.
“The Portuguese fans treat CR7 [Cristiano Ronaldo] Like a king. The fans of Brazil encourage Ney to break his leg. The biggest mistake in Ney’s career is being born in Brazil, this country doesn’t deserve his talent”.
