Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has earned the praise of his Brazil teammate and one of the greatest players of his generation, Neymar.
In a closely contested match against Switzerland yesterday, the Selecao couldn’t find a goal to break their opponent’s stubborn defense for much of the game.
This was despite the abundance of star-studded attacking talent that the team’s manager, Tite, launched onto the pitch in search of the all-important goal that would send his team to the last 16 of the World Cup.
However, it was an unlikely hero who broke the tie for the South American team.
Casemiro fired a powerful volley into the back of the Swiss net to earn all three of Brazil’s points and send them into the next round of the competition.
United were once again exemplary in midfield, highlighted by the fact that they were the only starting midfielder to complete the full 90 minutes and not be substituted.
The injured Neymar took to social media to praise the former Real Madrid star.
Neymar wrote on Twitter: “Casemiro has been the best midfielder in the world for a long time.”
Since then, the PSG star’s tweet has gone viral, gathering more than 650,000 likes.

Neymar’s praise for Casemiro cements what most United fans already knew about Casemiro and him as one of the best in the sport.
Since arriving in the summer, the 30-year-old has been nearly flawless, completely transforming the Red Devils’ midfield.
United fans will no doubt be delighted that Casemiro is showing his capabilities on the biggest stage. With any luck, he will help Brazil win the competition and become World Champion.
