Newcastle United keen on signing Harrison Ashby in January

Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for Harrison Ashby.

The West Ham United defender will be out of contract at the end of the season and the Hammers could consider selling him next month.

According to Sky Sports, the Newcastle hierarchy is awaiting manager Eddie Howe’s approval before making a move for Ashby. The 21-year-old will be available for a knockdown price in January and Newcastle could certainly use someone like him.

Newcastle have Kieran Trippier as their only reliable right-back option at the moment and Ashby could be a quality alternative. The youngster has the talent to become a quality player and Howe could help him reach his potential.

The likes of Javier Manquillo have been disappointing and Emil Krafth is injured. Trippier is 32 years old and will need to rest from time to time, especially after his participation in the World Cup.

Bringing in a backup right-back should be a priority for Newcastle and Ashby looks like the ideal choice. Given its age and potential price range, it could turn out to be a great bargain in the long run.
