Newcastle left-back Matt Target reveals how Staveley and Ghodoussi wanted to sign him to a permanent deal as soon as his loan deal with Newcastle ended.
The 26-year-old was Newcastle’s first summer signing when he joined from Aston Villa in a £15m deal after impressing Eddie Howe during his loan spell.
“As soon as the season was over, I just wanted to get back right away. I enjoyed my four, five months. I really enjoyed my football and I enjoyed the city, I enjoyed the fans, I enjoyed working with the manager. Yes, for me, it was a no-brainer to want to come back.”
“Said it was on, then it went off. Then they went on vacation, came back and just said ‘yeah, it’s on’. When I landed I literally came straight to Newcastle, did my medical and everything went well.
“I really enjoyed my football. Yes, I like the city. I like what it has to offer. It was a no-brainer. In terms of where the owners want to take the club. I think it’s the start of something that’s going to be very, very big. It will be good to look back on my career and say ‘I played for Newcastle United'”, Targett finished.
