Fox Sports is launching the next installment of its 2022 World Cup commercial campaign starring Jon Hamm as Santa Claus. The ad will premiere on Sunday, October 9 during scheduled NFL games on FOX.
The campaign began earlier this summer. FOX featured Hamm as Santa on a relaxing ‘off-season’ vacation. Learning that the World Cup has been moved to the Christmas season, Santa ends his vacation and rushes back to the North Pole to prepare for the tournament.
In the upcoming commercial, Hamm is joined by Tom Brady, Ellie Kemper, Mariah Carey and the stars of the US men’s national team. The spot supposedly continues Santa’s World Cup stress by taking over the winter spotlight from him.
However, Santa soon realizes how important the tournament is and that it allows him to spread more holiday cheer than usual. Brady and Carey play themselves in the commercial, while Kemper is Mrs. Claus.

FOX Sports Marketing President Robert Gottlieb couldn’t resist playing with the Christmas theme for the World Cup at an unusual time. “The 2022 World Cup is completely historic and unique because it is the first time the tournament will take place during the Christmas season, and our creative campaign with some of today’s biggest stars is focused on letting people know how special it is. It will be this moment.” Gottlieb said.
“Combining the biggest sporting event in the world with the most fun and festive time of the year is a great gift for fans.”
Meanwhile, Tom Brady claimed that he was a football fan and had a lot of fun filming the commercial. “I’m a huge fan of all of these athletes and seeing them perform is really special,” Brady said. “It was great to be a part of the FOX Sports ad campaign. So when the games start, I’ll be watching the best in the world compete at the highest level in the World Cup.”
The World Cup starts on November 20 and will run until December 18.
