Neil Jones reveals chat with Liverpool source over Fernandez transfer

Liverpool have yet to reach an agreement with Benfica over the signing of Enzo Fernández, despite claims to the contrary.

Speaking on The Redmen TV’s ‘Journo Insight’, Neil Jones admitted there was a lot of ‘guesswork’ with the latest round of speculation as clubs are reportedly lining up for the 21-year-old ahead of the winter window. .

“Without giving too much away, I asked someone in Liverpool, via WhatsApp, about this transfer and the response I got was a crying and laughing emoji,” the GOAL reporter said.

“It was about one [the story] about buying now and lending it until the summer and it was a crying and laughing emoji and I was like ‘wow! Really?’

“So, I don’t think anything has been agreed for Enzo Fernández, I don’t think anything is close to agreeing. These stories are going to emerge, emerge and emerge.”

With a reported release clause valued at €120m, it is highly unlikely that the Reds will trade before the summer for one of the most highly rated midfielders in Europe.

We know that Jude Bellingham, even with England knocked out of the World Cup ahead of schedule, will cost over £100m thanks to his phenomenal performances for club and country.

Supposedly, it is understood that Liverpool may have the finances on hand (thanks in no small part to the lack of acquisition of Aurelien Tchouameni last summer) to launch moves for both Fernández and Borussia Dortmund’s most prized asset.

Perhaps that depends in large part on the status of the potential sale or investment momentum from FSG, although we’ve been led to believe it’s “business as usual” even if the Americans still hold the reins at campaign end.
