Morocco Manager Walid Regragui Reacts to FIFA World Cup Elimination

France vs Morocco: Morocco national football team coach Walid Regragui admitted that his team was not good enough in their 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-final clash against the France national football team, but stressed that defeat takes nothing away from what they have achieved at the latest edition of FIFA’s flagship event.

Morocco’s dream run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup came to an end in the semi-final, where they faced France. In this semi-final clash between France and Morocco, the former emerged victorious, securing a 2-0 win over the African nation.

Theo Hernández put France ahead and Morocco behind five minutes into the game, putting the ball into the net with a beautiful shot from a tight angle. Randal Kolo Muani then sealed the victory for France by doubling their lead in the 79th minute.

The loss to France ended Morocco’s hopes of securing a spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final. Morocco will now face Croatia in a playoff for third place.

Speaking after the match between France and Morocco, Morocco coach Walid Regragui admitted that they did not get into the game well. However, he also stressed that defeat does not take anything away from what Morocco has achieved at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

“We gave our maximum, that’s the most important thing,” said Walid Regragui. “We had some injuries, we lost [Nayef] Aguerd in the warm-up, [Romain] He says, [Noussair] Mazraoui at halftime… but I have nothing to say, the slightest mistake is paid in cash”.

Walid Regragui added: “We didn’t get into the game well, we wasted too much technically in the first half, and the second goal killed us, but that doesn’t take away from everything we did before.”

France’s victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup was not as straightforward as the scoreboard suggests. In this match between France and Morocco, both teams had three shots on goal. France, for its part, registered 14, just one more than Morocco achieved.

Morocco produced waves of attack looking for an equalizer after France took an early lead. However, Morocco did not know how to put the ball into the net to recover parity.

France, who are the defending world champions, will now face Argentina in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final.
