As Liverpool prepare for their trip to Napoli to kick off the Champions League, Tuesday brought good news and bad on the injury front and yet another new deal.
Mixed injury news for Liverpool vs. Naples
On the eve of the Reds’ trip to Naples, there were some telltale signs at the open training session held on Merseyside.
Neither Fabio Carvalho nor Curtis Jones stood out with the pack at the AXA Training Center, and Jordan Henderson was also absent with a hamstring injury that will sideline him for the remainder of September.
Liverpool subsequently confirmed their 21-man traveling squad for the tie, and that trio did not make the flight along with long-term absentees Ibrahima Konate, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Calvin Ramsay and Caoimhin Kelleher.
Meanwhile, Napoli were able to welcome back Hirving Lozano after a head injury, but Víctor Osimhen returned to training alone.
Another new contract!
Following the extension of top scorer Leanne Kiernan on Monday, a new long-term contract was signed the following day for Liverpool FC Women forward Missy Bo Kearns.
The Scouser, who has risen through the ranks of the academy to take on a key role under Matt Beard, has become the latest to put pen to paper ahead of the Women’s Super League campaign.
“This is what I dreamed of as a kid and to have it come true and to live the dream every day is amazing,” Kearns told the club’s official website.
“I love the moment I am in and I am going to work hard for the club. I can’t wait to see where I am, I want to push myself.
“I’ve played against the best rivals internationally and in cups, but to do it every week, I can’t wait as it will be more of a test.”
