On Monday night, Tuttosport held its annual Golden Boy Award, which recognizes the best young stars in world football.
This season, Gavi won the honour, following in the footsteps of his Barcelona teammate Pedri, who received the award last season.
However, Fabio Miretti’s exploits did not go unnoticed. The organizers chose the Juventus teenager as the best Italian player under the age of 21.
The midfielder rose to fame late last season when Max Allegri promoted him to the first team and into the starting eleven amid an injury crisis.
While the 19-year-old has been displaying an impressive skill set in midfield, he is yet to score his first first-team goal, despite coming close on a number of occasions.
Miretti recognizes that situation and knows he needs to improve his finishing, citing it as the main characteristic he would love to steal from Juventus legend Claudio Marchisio.
“Since the beginning of the season I had many opportunities and I still haven’t scored, so it’s a characteristic that I have to improve,” admitted the youngster in an interview with Sky Sport via Calciomercato.
“I mainly watch the Premier League and my role model is Kevin De Bruyne, an extraordinary player. I try to learn as much as possible from him by watching him on TV.”
“It is an honor to receive the award from Claudio Marchisio. For me he has always been a reference.
“There are many characteristics that I would steal from him, but if I had to choose one, I would say goal instinct.”
