Milner on how Liverpool can use Alisson’s West Brom header as inspiration

Liverpool fans will never forget the moment Alisson Becker managed to convert a match-winning header that helped our quest for Champions League football two seasons ago and James Milner spoke about how he plans to use this as inspiration for this campaign too.

Speaking to the club’s official website, our vice-captain said: “In recent years, we’ve had absolutely fantastic seasons and we’ve had seasons where we’ve had to push ourselves and really get something out of it. You return to Ali’s header to get us into the Champions League…

‘We have experienced most of the situations together as a group. I think that’s important and it will help us get through this season.’

There will probably be some who will scoff at the words of our number 7, but it’s a great message to spread in the dressing room, if we can come back against Barcelona and Aston Villa, if our goalkeepers can score from corners, then why? Can we not be in a strong position again in the coming months?

It’s not going to be easy for Jurgen Klopp’s men, but it’s not out of the question that we can get to a position where the season ends on a high, both in the Premier League and the Champions League.

Having past experiences and memories together will benefit the group and once they get over this drop in results and performances there should be a strong sense of internal confidence within the dressing room because we’ve done it together before – few have experienced more than the 37-year-old who will also be spreading this message.
