Mikey Garcia Favors Crawford To Beat Spence

By Chris Williams: Mikey Garcia says he’s leaning toward Terence Crawford to defeat Errol Spence Jr for their fight Nov. 19 in Las Vegas.

Mikey likes Crawford’s ability to make adjustments on the fly and feels that it gives him an advantage. Still, Mikey generally sees the Spence-Crawford fight as a “50-50” affair.

Interestingly, Mikey is choosing against Spence, considering he lost a 12-round unanimous decision against him in March 2019.

Spence won virtually every round of the fight as he fought Mikey’s game by boxing him out instead of using his size and power to score a quick knockout.

IBF, WBA and WBC welterweight champion Spence (28-0, 22 KO) and WBO champion Crawford (38-0, 29 KO) agreed to terms earlier this week but have not yet agreed. have signed contracts for the fight.

According to Mike Coppinger, there are still a few things that need to be ironed out before getting to the contract stage. It would be a huge disappointment to the fans if the Spence vs. Crawford fight doesn’t take place as people are looking forward to this one.

“I think it’s going to be a great matchup. It’s 50-50,” Mikey Garcia told Fighthype about the fight between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford on November 19.

“If I had to pick a side for at least what it is now, I’d go with Crawford,” Mikey continued. “I think I could make adjustments along the way, a little better along the way, but not much.

“Spence handles distance very well and is able to control distance with small short movements. It’s hard to decide, but I’m thinking of Crawford, maybe.

“It depends on who he’s fighting and his skill set,” Mikey said when asked what advice he would give to a fighter facing Spence. “The best advice is to get in good shape, in the best possible shape. Train hard and stay fit.

“Everybody has the power at that point. They are at the highest level. The only difference is that they are [Crawford and Spence] they’re too smart to knock each other out. I think it’s going to be a very technical fight.

“All it takes is one hit, and he [Spence] I never landed that one punch that could have hurt me. I could land that against anyone else. That’s what makes the difference. Honestly, I see it as a 50-50 fight.

“When I say I’m going to lean a little bit towards Crawford, it’s just instinct, maybe. It’s not where I can pinpoint why. It’s a close fight,” Mikey said.

“The fight is scheduled for November 19 in Las Vegas, but there is no agreement yet. Even though they agreed to all the important terms, there are still some issues in the contract that they are trying to work out,” Mike Coppinger told Pro Boxing Fans about the Spence-Crawford fight.
