Mikel Arteta Reveals Arsenal’s January Transfer Window Plans

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that he wants to complete his January transfers as soon as possible.

The north London outfit heads into the January transfer window as top of the Premier League table. Arsenal have 37 points from 14 games in the English top flight so far in the 22/23 season and enjoy a five-point lead over second-table Manchester City, the defending champions.

But Arsenal will be without Gabriel Jesus for weeks following the Brazilian’s 2022 FIFA World Cup injury and subsequent surgery. He suffered an injury while playing for Brazil against Cameroon in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Group G match and has since undergone surgery on his right knee.

He is expected to be out of action for some time, and that means Arsenal may look to sign a new striker in the January transfer window.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s first Premier League game after the winter break, Mikel Arteta revealed that they want to complete their signings in the January transfer window as soon as possible.

He also insisted that he can guarantee that they can sign a striker in the January transfer window. But Mikel Arteta also underlined that they cannot afford to sign a striker who doesn’t suit them.

“We knew the importance of getting players at the beginning of the summer and that’s the same thing we want to do in January,” said Mikel Arteta. “This is idealistic. Sometimes it’s not realistic. But obviously, if you ask my opinion, as quickly as possible we want the players to settle in.”

Mikel Arteta added: “Can we afford not to get the player we want? That is my question. Surely we can afford to get a striker if we want him, I don’t know if he plays in League Two, in League Five, in Spain, Portugal or Africa.

“We can get a striker, I guarantee it. But what we cannot afford is to bring here a player who is not for us. This is what we cannot afford, that’s for sure”.

Meanwhile, Arsenal signed Gabriel Jesus in the 2022 summer transfer window. The Gunners obtained the Brazil international from Premier League rivals Manchester City.
