Michael Conlan has made Kevin Cronin his first directing project.
The two-time world title challenger and Olympic medal winner will guide and shape Kerry’s super middleweight career going forward.
The Irish boxing legend has been working on the business side of the sport since founding Conlan Boxing with his brother and former world title challenger Jamie Conlan.
However, with Ireland’s only World Championship gold medal winner still an active professional, the older of the two brothers has done most of the heavy lifting.
While Michael Conlan was involved, Jamie Conlan was officially the manager and decision maker of Tyrone McKenna, Padraig McCrory, Kieran Molloy, Kurt Walker and the Conlan Boxing roster.
In Cronin’s case it will be different – the Top Rank star will manage two-time title challengers BUI Celtic from Kerry.
It remains to be seen if all of Conlan’s boxing work will be out of the loop from now on. He is yet to confirm whether or not he will continue fighting after his shock loss to Jordan Gill.
Nothing about the decision to work with Cronin should be read in that way – it’s a plan that has been in place since Conlan watched the Irish Boxing Awards’ National Fight of the Year between the Kerry man and Jamie Morrissey in Galway in the summer past.
