Michael Owen slams Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliot

Michael Owen criticized Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliot for his mistake which led to a Brentford goal.

Liverpool were beaten by Brentford in their first game of 2023 and it was not a good display from Jurgen Klopp’s men. Brentford bombarded Liverpool with set pieces that they simply couldn’t handle and were sometimes saved by referees and VAR.

Young midfielder Elliot made the decision to fool around with a ball passed to him by Alisson Becker, only to have it land directly on an opposing player. Former Liverpool striker Owen criticized Elliot for this decision, which led to a Brentford goal.

“I don’t know for the life of me on your third what Harvey Elliott is doing there! Let the ball between his legs. He may not have had a scream. He was never on,” Owen said, speaking to Premier League Productions, as quoted by HITC.

Elliot’s decision shows a lack of experience playing a significant role in midfield. Elliot started his career as a winger and is currently being shaped by Klopp into a central player.

Elliot is still young, but possibly shows why Liverpool need to bring a bit more experience to their midfield while Elliot is still learning his trade.
