Lionel Messi has broken an Instagram record previously held by Cristiano Ronaldo.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner shared a post showing several photos of him and his teammates from Argentina lifting the prestigious World Cup trophy.
Since then, yesterday’s match has been ranked as one of the greatest finals ever, due to its back-and-forth nature and the sheer talent displayed on the pitch.
Messi’s post gained more than 46 million likes in 18 hours and currently has 49 million, making it the most liked photo of any athlete in Instagram history.
