McElhenney confirms ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ season two

Welcome to Wrexham looks set to return for season two. The documentary series that follows the events surrounding Wrexham AFC, as well as their owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, has been a resounding success.

McElhenney himself confirmed that the show will return for an additional season. “Oops. Sorry. Tonight is the last episode of @Wrexhamfx Season 1,” McElhenney tweeted on Wednesday. “Season 2 is coming back next year. I have a clause in my contract that says I won’t do anything less than 16 seasons of a TV show.

The actor’s joke is a reference to another show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It has also been confirmed that season 16 of this show will be released sometime in the fall of 2023.

Fans of Welcome to Wrexham Season 1 have greeted the show with overwhelming praise since its launch in August. Reelgood is an aggregator that collects statistics about streaming television. The website claims that the show, which stars McElhenney and Reynolds, finished as the seventh most-watched show in the United States for the week of September 2.

Welcome to the second season of Wrexham

Rotten Tomatoes has also reported an average approval rating of 90% from critics for Welcome to Wrexham. Along with high praise from critics, the show currently has an average viewership score of 97% according to the movie and TV review aggregation website.

McElhenney and Reynolds previously purchased Wrexham AFC in a deal completed in February 2021. The team’s fans overwhelmingly backed the duo’s purchase with nearly 99% of voters satisfied with the deal.

Founded in 1864, Wrexham is the oldest team in Wales. The Red Dragons currently compete in the fifth tier of the English Football League system.

Due to the public attraction of the new owners, the club was included in FIFA 22 as a “Rest of the World” team. It was the first non-league club to be included in the video game.
