McCrory Fights Undefeated German for IBO World title

Padraig McCrory [14(8)-0] will challenge undefeated Leon Bunn [!8(9)-0] for the IBO light heavyweight world title.

The super middleweight from Belfast was duly rewarded for a sensational knockout run by recently being mandatory for Gustave Tamba and his EU 168lb title.

Conlan Boxing then won bids to promote the mandatory fight and McCrory looked set for a big night in Galway or Belfast.

However, an opportunity has presented itself, and ‘The Hammer’ will now fight the German for the vacant title in Frankfurt on October 22.

The local favorite was initially intended to fight Daniel Blenda dos Santos for the strap on October 1, but the ankle injury forced the Brazilian out and McCrory stepped in.

It means a change in weight for McCrory, who has posted an impressive four straight knockout wins at super middleweight, but his team is confident moving up the ladder won’t be a problem.

Bunn is undefeated and holds an IBF international title, has a strong endorsement from Sauerland and has nine knockouts in 18 fights. He also has respectable wins on his record, but nothing too flashy, and the fact that they accepted this fight for an EU title fight suggests that the McCrory team has a lot of confidence.

Speaking before the fight was officially confirmed, Conlan Boxing frontman Jamie Conlan said he was hopeful of securing undercard slots for Kieran Molloy and Kurt Walker.
