Match report: Real Betis 1-0 Manchester United – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United has lost its second friendly in Spain after the victory of Real Betis by 1-0.

United started the game on the front foot with Alejandro Garnacho making a good run in the first five minutes, cutting inside and leaving it out for Martial, but his pass inside the box was cut up by the hosts.

McTominay, who was captain again tonight, fired from distance but went wide.

United weren’t the only ones given chances though, as Brandon Williams put in some solid blocks early on to deny Real Betis.

The best chance of the time came for the locals who, after twenty minutes, shook the wood. It was a low shot by Akouokou from the edge of the area.

As the Reds breathed a sigh of relief, Anthony Elanga, who had something to prove after a poor display in the first friendly, had a chance to put United ahead but again his effort went wide.

On the stroke of halftime, it was Martial’s turn to strike, but he again curved it wide.

Right after the break the locals already took the lead. Nabil Fekir finished off a good link game with a low shot that found the back of the net.

Ten Hag gave several academy players a chance to shine today; Noam Emeran had a chance to equalize but his powerful left foot narrowly missed.

The only players to play the full 90 minutes were Lindelof and McTominay.

Tom Heaton, a second-half substitute for De Gea, had a lot of work to do as he was called into action several times and made some good saves.

Wan-Bissaka also looked for an equalizer while playing higher up the field. He tried to volley a cross to the far post, but missed correctly.

It was a disappointing end to the Reds’ trip to Spain, but something positive can be taken from the energy displayed by some of the youngsters on the team who got a few minutes.
