Manchester United have won their last game of 2022, beating Sheffield United 4-0 in an inconsequential Conti Cup tie.
United showed good attacking intention from the start; Rachel Williams had the first opportunity but her shot from the edge of the box went well wide.
A long-range shot from Boe Risa flew over the bar.
It was León who unchecked the rojillos after ten minutes and came from a corner. A powerful shot was blocked, but when he returned to the area, León managed to pass it to the goalkeeper.
Williams was playing a good game, getting into space and showing tenacity and passion. As he engaged with a ball, he collided with a billboard with a crash, but bounced off again.
United were dominating possession and trying to find a second and they had some good ideas but the link play wasn’t close enough.
Garcia had a chance to double his lead, headed past the keeper on the edge of the box but shot wide.
Moments later, a brilliant collective goal allowed Leon to get the second.
León had a chance for his hat-trick early in the second half, but his shot was tame and settled into the goalkeepers’ gloves.
But the third was not far off, a lovely Thomas cross converted by a Sheffield United player.
At the other end, Sheffield United had their first chance of the game, but Baggaley was alive in the face of danger and took the shot out of the air.
It was nice to see some of the academy players get some good minutes with Keira Barry having around thirty minutes to show the manager what she could do and Aherne having around ten.
Martha Thomas converted the fourth as her shot went over the keeper into the far bottom corner.
Sheffield United tried to win one back and Baggaley went for the ball but couldn’t reach it. Fortunately, Thorisdottir had returned to clean up.
Williams almost made five, but dragged his shot wide.
Garcia fired in the final five minutes, but his powerful shot went wide.
