Match report: Manchester United 1 – 0 Omonia – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United beat Omonia in dramatic fashion in Europa League Group E tonight as they waited until injury time before taking the lead.

Marcus Rashford had the first shot of the night in the first two minutes. It was a good shot from Rashford, but it drew a brilliant save from Omonia’s second goalkeeper, who reached up to deflect it over the crossbar.

Cristiano Ronaldo was in a good position to make a great run but the defender forced him to take a very close shot and only found the side of the net.

Just like last week, United created chance after chance, but twenty minutes passed and they couldn’t break through.

Omonia goalkeeper Ozohu made two more superb saves to deny the Reds; Rashford’s powerful shot that managed to push wide had half the field cheering as they thought he had snuck in.

Ronaldo from 25 yards, controlled the ball, turned and shot wide. Then Casemiro attempted United’s first goal from a bit further away and again the keeper stuck his fingertips in and pushed it against the crossbar.

However, it was not all United, Omonia managed to shake United’s defense on a counterattack launched by Bruno, but instead of squaring, he himself took the shot that went over the bar.

The second half started and United instantly had a chance to take the lead. Antony made an extra touch that he didn’t need, slowing down the ball and the goalkeeper managed to save it. Rashford continued with the rebound, but he kicked it wrong and the goalkeeper, still on the ground, managed to get a hand on it.

Still, the red wave kept coming and this time it was Fred with a chance and Ronaldo with the rebound, but the Nigerian goalkeeper was making a name for himself.

Marcus Rashford had a chance after another counter attack from Bruno, he was one on one with the keeper but somehow broke him wide open.

You were starting to think it wasn’t United’s night!

McTominay, within minutes of coming on, had a chance with a powerful shot, but again the keeper was there to duck and scoop the ball out. He got another chance moments later, but he smashed it into the stands.

Finally, in minute 93, Sancho controlled the ball well and, dancing between the defenders, he met McTominay, lurking at the penalty spot. He controlled it and smashed it through the hole he saw and broke Cypriot hearts.

Brilliant scenes at the Theater of Dreams as the academy graduate came off the bench to save the day.
