Mason Mount could leave this summer

Chelsea could sell midfielder Mason Mount in the summer if they cannot agree on a new contract while talks remain stalled.

Rumors have circulated around the 24-year-old midfielder that he has been attracting suitors without any progress in deal extension talks.

The Athletic reported at the start of the week that Chelsea have now put further talks about a new contract on hold until the team recovers after winning just one of their last 11 games in all competitions.

Now the Athletic’s Simon Johnson and Liam Twomey report that the Blues will look to dump their two-time Player of the Year in the summer, when he will only have a year left on his current contract if they cannot agree a deal, a decision that means that they will also avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2024.

Mount has just three goals and six assists in 31 games this season.

As a product of the academy, a sale of Mount will count as pure profit for Chelsea, meaning they will continue to meet the financial Fair Play, something Todd Boehly has been keen to find ways in since his arrival at SW6.

Mount will expect his form to improve considerably if he is to continue his stay at Stamford Bridge, with the player in what many feel is his worst form since beginning his journey with the senior team.
